About the Journey
Bronco Kicks on 66 is a two-day road rally traveling as much of the original Route 66 and its historic alignments through Illinois as possible.
We’ll begin in Pontiac, Illinois at the iconic Route 66 Museum, then spend the weekend cruising south along one of the most famous highways in the world.
Expect:
• scenic rural roads and historic alignments
• small towns that grew up along the Mother Road
• classic roadside landmarks
• quirky pieces of Route 66 history
• good conversation and great vehicles
This isn’t a race and it isn’t about speed.
It’s about the drive.
Day 1
We’ll gather Saturday morning in downtown Pontiac at the Route 66 Museum before rolling out onto the road.
From there we’ll travel south, following Route 66 wherever the original roadway or historic alignments still exist. Along the way we’ll stop at a few classic landmarks and pass by many more pieces of Route 66 history.
The route winds through small Illinois towns, open farm country, and quiet backroads that still carry the spirit of the Mother Road.
By evening we’ll arrive in Springfield where we’ll settle in for the night and swap road stories before continuing the journey the next morning.
Day 2
Sunday we head back out and continue toward the St. Louis area with more historic stops, roadside oddities, and stretches of the old highway.
The rally finishes in unforgettable fashion as we cross the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, one of the most iconic structures on Route 66.
We’ll gather near the bridge for one big group photo before everyone heads home.
